I have exciting news! As you all know, myths, legends and untruths are a dominant force in the lives of the Roma throughout the world. Houston has a fantastic new non-profit organization in town called: Divas World. As part of their salon series, they are presenting a special event (free to public, as all events in their 'salon' series are) at Rice University in Houston, TX, Tuesday, May 17th at 8 pm. I will be participating in a project that involves awareness of the Romany who were killed in the Holocaust. I'm gathering details this weekend - may need a few volunteers (hint....hint) and I'll be back soon to give details.

Musical guests will include notables such as Nuevo Russian-Romany musical ensemble Via Romen, along with Marcus DeLoach (baritone), Zachary Carrettin (violin), Susan Archibald (piano), and Divas World’s Rodney Waters (piano). Traditional Roma music and Dvorak Gypsy Songs will be included in addition to a performance by Carrettin of Sarasate’s Romanza Andaluza, Op. 22, No. 1.

I'm delighted that Houston is gaining awareness of the Romany people. I will post thoughts and insights about this event next week!The Divas Salon Series is a uniquely modern expression of the 19th century European tradition of classical music programming. Very interested to hear about the Romani Holocaust project! That has been on my possible research topics for awhile now.
Danielle - I'm very excited too - I'll be talking with the woman who worked with Dr. Hancock to gather the info and names of 832 of the victims....no small task. I'll will update as I learn.
Looking forward to the Tuesday night event, and working with you on the project.
